<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device that can function as an array element in an expandable array of light emitting devices. <P>SOLUTION: A light emitting device comprises a substrate that has a top surface and multiple edges. Input and output terminals are mounted on the top surface of the substrate. Both terminals comprise multiple contact pads disposed proximate to the edges of the substrate, allowing easy connection from the multiple edges of the substrate to both terminals. A light emitting element is mounted on the top surface of the substrate. The light emitting element is connected between the input and output terminals.
