PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a brush holder in which a special containing section is not required and wear of brush carbon is reduced at a low cost. SOLUTION: The brush holder 2 comprises a carbon case 4 constituting a guide 38 for a carbon brush 6, and a holding spring 10 and presses the carbon brush 6 against the first guide face of a guide 38 by a holding/pressing force HF. The holding spring 10 includes two fastening portions 12 and 21 generating fastening forces in the approaching direction, and a portion of the carbon case 4 and the carbon brush 6 are arranged between these fastening portions. Suitably, the holding spring 10 is a U-shaped leaf spring surrounding the carbon case 4, the first leg 14 is provided with a means 16 for securing the carbon case 4, the second leg 20 includes a press contact means 22, and the press contact means 22 is made to enter into a cut 26 provided in the carbon case 4 and to touch the carbon brush 6.
