PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing for a crankshaft or the like, having reduced friction force during supporting the crankshaft or the like of an engine, and good assembling efficiency. SOLUTION: The bearing 1 for the crankshaft or the like comprises two semi-circular split elements (an upper bearing 2 and a lower bearing 3) each having a bearing side face 4 facing the outer peripheral face of the shaft to be supported. Each split element has a number of balls, and ball holding portions 7 as annular pathways for holding the balls 6 cyclically in the contacting condition of partially protruding the balls 6 from the bearing side face 4 to contact the outer peripheral face and in the non-contacting condition of submerging them in the bearing side face 4 not to contact the outer peripheral face.
