PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dyeing method solving such problems that, in making a dyeing using natural indigo, much indigo is formed in a dyeing bath in high concentrations of the natural indigo when the dyeing bath is prepared, and because of being difficult to control its content, a desired hue of the dyed product cannot be obtained, and in addition, because of the dye's being lost by its deposition onto the dyed product, much loss of the dye results. SOLUTION: The dyeing method for an indigo-dyed article comprises the following process: In the step of conducting an indigo dyeing to form an indigo's leuco-form, in addition to a fermentative component or reducing agent and an alkali that make up a vat dyeing bath, an anionic or nonionic surfactant or a surfactant consisting of a composition thereof, particularly a surfactant having a hydrophilic group at the center of the molecule and hydrophobic groups on both ends or having a molecular structure opposite thereto, is added to the dyeing bath.
