PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient locking and unlocking system for furniture, which suppresses power consumption related to drive of a locking and unlocking device of a storage unit as much as possible. SOLUTION: The system comprises: a permitted unit specification means 3 for specifying a use permission storage unit 1 to which a use permission storage unit ID corresponding to a user ID read from a reader 8 is assigned, based on a database 4; and a locking and unlocking device control means 18 for unlocking, when a user detection signal is received from a proximity sensor 14 between receipt of a user and establishment of a predetermined locking condition, a locking and unlocking device 17 of a detected storage unit 1 provided with the proximity sensor 14 which outputs the user detection signal on condition that the detected storage unit 1 is included in use permitted storage units 1 specified by the permitted unit specification means 3.
