PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a knitting machine needle so that a latch-type needle can be used in a much higher working velocity. SOLUTION: An upward jaw slope section (8) of the needle (1) is divided into different domains in order to reduce a collision velocity of a latch (4) of the needle (1) in a reversion position by reducing the acceleration effect produced from a half stitch (19). A first part (12), for example, goes up in a comparatively large angleγof 20°, preferably to 16°. The half stitch (19) reaches a second part (16) of the upward jaw slope section (8) after contacting to the inside section (14) of the latch (4). The second part (16), for example, is a straight section going up in a less acute angleβof merely 14°or less than 14°. As the result, the acceleration effect to the latch (4) generated by the half stitch (19) is avoided in a large rotation range of the latch.
