A power system (10) has an energy conversion device (12) and a volume expansion engine (14). The energy conversion device is configured to receive fuel, implement an electro-chemical process to generate an electrical output, and produce a first exhaust flow. The volume expansion engine is configured to receive the first exhaust flow, combust the first exhaust flow to generate a power output, and produce a second exhaust flow directed into the energy conversion device.
