PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and economical method with which an aromatic amine produced by the catalytic hydrogenation of a corresponding nitro compound of an aromatic amine is purified, while reducing the volume of a waste water flow without requiring a complicated distillation. SOLUTION: In the method for separating a phenolic hydroxy group-containing compound from a gas flow containing an amine compound formed in the process of the vapor-phase hydrogenation of a nitro aromatic compound being at least one of an aromatic amine with hydrogen, the phenolic hydroxy group-containing compound is adsorbed on a basic solid.
