摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain variations in characteristics in mass-production in a perpendicular magnetic recording medium having a perpendicular recording layer in a double-layer structure, where a Co-Cr-Pt alloy first magnetic layer containing an oxide and a Co-Cr-Pt alloy second magnetic layer are formed successively. SOLUTION: In the perpendicular magnetic recording medium, on a substrate 10, an adhesive layer 11, a soft magnetic underlayer 12, a seed layer 13, an intermediate layer 14, perpendicular recording layers 15 (15a, 15b), a protective layer 16, and a lubrication layer 17 are formed successively. The perpendicular recording layer is set to be in a double-layer structure, where the Co-Cr-Pt alloy first magnetic layer 15a containing an oxide and the Co-Cr-Pt alloy second magnetic layer 15b containing a kind of marker element for measuring a film thickness selected from Mo, Mn, V are formed successively, and the content of the marker element for measuring a film thickness is set at not less than 1.5 at.% and not more than 5 at.%.
