PROCESS FOR PRODUCING (METH)ACRYLIC ACID BEING REDUCED IN WATER CONTENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying (meth)acrylic acid that produces a purified (meth)acrylic acid derivative having a low aldehyde concentration and a water content less than 0.2% by weight. SOLUTION: One embodiment of the method includes a step of distilling (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of an aldehyde-processing compound. Another embodiment of the method includes a step of distilling crude (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of a reactive drying agent. The (meth)acrylic acid thus produced is particularly suitable for use in a functional (meth)acrylic polymer such as a superabsorbing polymer and a binder, an ethylene-(M)AA copolymer and the like.
