PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply detect the abnormality of a coated surface grounding inspecting device before the detection of the coating surface of a material to be coated when the coated surface grounding inspecting device is not normally operated caused by failure or like. SOLUTION: The abnormality detecting apparatus includes: an electrifying plate 11 capable of being electrified separately from a material to be coated by an electrifier 7 of the coated surface grounding inspecting device 1 and detecting a surface potential by a surface potential detecting sensor 8 of the coated surface grounding inspecting device 1 in non-contact state; and an abnormality detecting circuit 12 for detecting the operation abnormality of the coated surface grounding inspecting device 1 by the output from the surface potential detection sensor 8 when the surface potential is detected.
