The supply element has supply tubes (3, 3') for connecting the supply element to a dental instrument or hand piece (4). An instrument tray (1) and a tube guide (6) are provided. Retraction mechanisms (7, 8) are provided for retracting the supply tubes from the supply element. The tube guide includes a sensor (12) for detecting acceleration, speed or path of movement of the tubes, and a comparison unit (12.1) for comparing the detected acceleration, speed or path with a preset criterion.
