摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relax assembly adjustment accuracy requirement regarding a spatial optical modulation element and an image light receiving element, and to achieve further reduction in size in an optical information recording and reproducing apparatus using a two-luminous flux interference system. <P>SOLUTION: The optical information recording and reproducing apparatus using the two-luminous flux interference system includes a PBS 11 splitting the luminous flux from a laser light source 11 into two luminous fluxes, and guides, as reference light, one of the split luminous fluxes to a recording medium 22. The optical information recording and reproducing apparatus further includes a spatial light modulator irradiated with the other of the split luminous fluxes and generating information light, an objective lens 31 guiding information light to the recording medium 22, and the image light receiving element receiving the luminous flux from the recording medium 22. In this constitution, information is recorded on the recording medium 22 by the interference between the reference light and information light, the recording medium 22 is irradiated with the reference light, and the luminous flux emitted therefrom is guided to the image light receiving element to reproduce information.
