PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of a secondary battery left in a high voltage state, by automatically adjusting a voltage of a battery pack. SOLUTION: A microcomputer of the battery pack has a normal mode and a sleep mode in which power consumption is less than in the normal mode. The mode is shifted from the normal mode to the sleep mode when shift conditions S1 are satisfied. Specifically, it is when a state satisfying all the following conditions continues for a predetermined period of time, or 10 seconds, for example, that the shift conditions are satisfied: (A) A charge/discharge current measured is less than a current threshold value (±200 mA, for example) (in a no-load state). (B) A voltage of the secondary battery 7 is less than a voltage threshold value (a terminal voltage per cell of 4.2 V, a battery pack output voltage of 16.8 V, for example).
