摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress degradation of a liquid crystal material due to flickers or application of a DC voltage. SOLUTION: In a method for driving an image display device for displaying an image by applying pixel signals to a display unit 42 having a plurality of pixels formed in a matrix by disposing a plurality of pixel electrodes PE having an alignment layer formed on the surface and a counter electrode CE having an alignment layer formed on the surface, opposing to each other with a liquid crystal LC interposed therebetween, the image display device displays an image with a plurality of grayscales by constituting each frame from a plurality of sub-frames and selectively turning on or off the sub-frames, wherein the display period of each sub-frame is divided into a first half display period and a second half display period, polarities are inverted between the first half display period and the second half display period, and the ratio of the length of the first half display period to that of the second half display period is determined in such a manner that the product of the length of the first half display period and the potential difference between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode is equal to the product of the length of the second half display period and the potential difference between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode.
