PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent that reduces accumulated charges while keeping a voltage holding rate and has excellent printing property. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent comprises a compound expressed by general formula (1) or a polymer obtained by polymerizing the above compound as an essential component, and preferably contains at least one kind selected from a group consisting of polyimide and polyamic acid having a specified structure. In general formula (1), each of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>independently represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group; X represents a monovalent organic group having a group expressed by CH<SB>2</SB>=CR-, wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group; and m represents an integer of 1 to 3.
