An apparatus ( 1 ) for treating flat, brittle substrates ( 2 ) is described, in which apparatus the substrates ( 2 ) are acted upon in a treatment chamber by a treatment liquid ( 14 ). For this purpose they are guided by a transport device ( 3 ) so as to pass horizontally through the treatment chamber. Lateral guide devices which comprise cylindrical, rotatably mounted lateral guide rollers ( 20 ) ensure that the substrates ( 2 ) are conveyed in an advantageous manner in a conveying direction ( 4 ).
