The method involves transmitting print data together with trapping-instructions in a print data stream for implementing trapping in a printing system (13), where the print data stream references resource data, which contain a trapping parameter and/or the trapping-instructions. The resource data is stored in a print data controller (17), and the print data stream is structured in different planes, where the print data stream is advanced function printing(AFP)/intelligent printing data stream (IPDS). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a printing system for trapping print data (2) a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for trapping print data.
