The invention relates to a method for operating a damping system of a pri nting group of a printing machine, especially a web-fed rotary printing pres s, the damping system comprising a damping means dosing device provided with a plurality of dosing units, a damping system rolling mill drive comprising at least one damping system roller, and at least one damping means applicat ion roller. According to the invention, the application of the damping means is adapted to the width of the material to be printed or to widths of the s ides of the material to be printed.
