<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of facilitating warm-up of a catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine has a catalyst device 42 arranged on an exhaust passage 41 of the engine, and purifying exhaust emission flowing through the exhaust passage 41. In the internal combustion engine, the catalyst device 42 includes the catalyst 421 for purifying the exhaust emission, and a radiation part 426 arranged on the exhaust passage 41 and on the downstream side of the catalyst 421, and converting thermal energy of the exhaust emission to radiation energy to radiate it to the catalyst 421. In a cold operation or the like, the catalyst 421 is efficiently heated by the radiation energy from the radiation part 426 to warm up the catalyst device 42. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
