PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image formation device and a cartridge using number managing device which can raise motivation for positively cooperating about recovering and refilling a cartridge by a user by a method which can be simply realized. SOLUTION: This invention constitutes the image formation device for forming an image by giving recording material to a recording medium which can place the cartridge for containing the recording material for forming the image on the recording medium. Alternatively, this invention comprises a residual amount detecting means for detecting the residual amount of the recording material, and a counting means for increasing a counted value when the counting amount detecting means for detecting the residual amount of the recording material detects that no recording materials remain in the cartridge. Further, this invention comprises a counting value holding means for holding the counted value counted by the counting means, and a writing means for writing the counted value, the counted items of information held in the counting value holding means in a nonvolatile memory provided in the cartridge.
