PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article sorting device 1 capable of carrying out even an article M straddling a plurality of conveyance units 3 onto a branched conveyor line 4 smoothly. SOLUTION: An article position detection sensor 5 for detecting the information related to one article M straddling one or a plurality of conveyance units 3 is arranged on the more upstream side than a sorting section of a conveyance conveyor line 2. This article sorting device is provided with a controller for operating cross belt sorters 11 of all the conveyance units 3 corresponding to one article M in synchronization based on the form information from the article position detection sensor 5 when one or a plurality of conveyance units 3 carrying one article M on them arrive at the sorting section. In this case, the cross belt sorters 11 of each conveyance unit 3 can be operated in accordance with length L of the article M to be sorted in the sorting section on the conveyance conveyor line 2 so that, for example, even the article M put over a plurality of conveyance units 3 can be smoothly and securely carried out onto the branched conveyor line 4.
