PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium handling system providing easy removal of a jammed medium even when the medium is jammed in a state laid across a cassette and a medium carrier. SOLUTION: When a bankbook 25 is jammed in a state laid across a bankbook cassette 15 and the medium carrier 18 when sending out the bankbook 25 from the bankbook cassette 15, it is detected by a transmission sensor 28. When it is detected that the bankbook is jammed in a state laid across the bankbook cassette 15 and the medium carrier 18, the medium carrier 18 is moved to the uppermost position. By this, the jammed bankbook 25 is held in one of the medium carrier 18 or the bankbook cassette 15, and removal of the jammed bankbook 25 becomes easy. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
