PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the complete water-sealing effect and high load-bearing strength of an expansion gap. SOLUTION: A supporting base (B1) for an expansion joint comprises: a pair of front leg plates (9) which are installed in the opposed state of sandwiching the expansion gap (S) in between; an elastic water-sealing belt (10) which is attached to both the front leg plates; a base distributing anchor (11) which overhangs backward from both the front leg plates; and an anchor support (12) which is raised from each of the base distributing anchors in such a manner as to be higher than the front base plate. The supporting base (B1) is installed in the blockout recess (G) of the road bridge; the base distributing anchor (11) is assembled and welded to an existing embedded bar (5); the anchor support is assembled and welded to a joint distributing anchor (23) which has already been provided in expansion joints (A1)-(A3) themselves; and the anchor support of the supporting base, which is embedded and constructed at a stroke concurrently with the embedment of the expansion joint, is maintained to be capable of being repeatedly used for the assembly of a new expansion joint for replacement in each repair operation, by means of post-cast concrete (8) for being placed in the blockout recess.
