The invention relates to a method for preparing a carbonated complex oxide having a very low water content, and to the use thereof as a cathode material. The carbonated complex oxide is made of particles of an olivine-structure AMXO₄ compound bearing on a portion at least of their surface a carbon film deposited by pyrolysis.
