<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing apparatus with a lock which performs opening/closing and locking operations with a reduced installation space. <P>SOLUTION: This opening and closing apparatus with lock includes: a rack and pinion mechanism, for opening and closing sliding doors 11A, 11B; an actuator, functioning as an opening/closing drive source; a locking mechanism 60 for locking the sliding doors 11A, 11B at the fully closed position; a changing mechanism 33 for the locking mechanism 60; and a planetary gear mechanism 20, into which the driving force of the actuator is inputted, and which outputs the driving force to the pinion 9 and the changing mechanism 33.
