PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner detection device capable of surely receiving light in a light receiving part simultaneously with securing the efficiency of projecting light by reducing slide marks left on a light projecting part. SOLUTION: The sliding width W2 of a cleaning member 62 at a light receiving side relative to the light receiving part 52 is made larger than the sliding width W1 of a cleaning member 61 at a light projecting part side relative to the light projecting part 51, alternatively the number of cleaning members 62 at the light receiving part side is made larger than the number of cleaning members 61 at the light projecting part side, alternatively the sliding strength of the side cleaning member 62 at the light receiving relative to the light receiving part 52 is made larger than the sliding strength of the cleaning member 61 at the light projecting part side relative to the light projecting part 51.
