A plasma display apparatus is provided to enhance image quality by selectively utilizing one of dual or single coding schemes based on the variation amounts of image data. A plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel(100) and a driver. The plasma display panel displays images using image frames including plural sub-fields. The driver selects on-sub-field among the plural sub-fields of the image frames, implements the gray scale of images according to the selection result, and selects the on-sub-field using two or more different coding schemes related to image data of the same gray scales. The sub-fields of the image frames are arranged in the sequence where gray scale weighted values are increased and decreased.
