A solid immersion lens and a lens holder having the same are provided to protect lens surface from pollutants and facilitate operations of a recording or reproducing apparatus by partly coating the lens surface with a conductive material. An SIL(Solid Immersion Lens,111) having a total reflection surface to form near field comprises a first surface(111a), a second surface(111b), and a third surface(111c). The first surface receives light. The second surface is coated with a conductive material within an area where the beam path is not interrupted. The conductive material is aluminum or aluminum alloy. The third surface projects the beam refracted by the first surface.
