The device has thermal trip elements, particularly thermostatic bimetals (10-12), with a transfer element (20) to transfer tripping movement of the trip elements to a tripping lever in a switch latch, so that contact points located in the device remain in an open condition. The trip elements lie in a plane such that bent ends (14) of the trip elements move perpendicular to the plane. The element (20) is provided as a bendable thread or wire element (30) that is inflexible in a longitudinal direction and is connected with the ends. The element (30) runs in the plane or parallel to the plane.
