A torsion bar with variable stiffness in a steering gear box is provided to adjust stiffness of the torsion bar conveniently by employing two detachable torsion bars. A torsion bar with variable stiffness in a steering gear box comprises a first torsion bar(1) and a second torsion bar(2). The first torsion bar is connected with a steering shaft and a steering pinion gear. The second torsion bar slides the outer surface of the first torsion bar, wherein the second torsion bar is detachable to the first torsion bar. The first torsion bar is provided with a spline portion(1a), and the second torsion bar is provided with an another spline portion, which is engaged with the spline portion of the first torsion bar. Pin holes are formed at each spline portion, separated from each other vertically. When a pin(3) is inserted into the holes of the torsion bars both first and second torsion bars are integrated with each other rotatably.
