A pump for fluid medium, in particular for manual use in an internal combustion engine operated with diesel fuel is provided to minimize pressure loss during operation of the internal combustion engine by removing a cutoff element in a first fluid duct which is set in an operation state. A pump for fluid medium, in particular for manual use in an internal combustion engine operated with diesel fuel comprises a housing(1). At least one inlet(3) for fluid medium and at least one outlet(4) for fluid medium are formed in the housing. A pump device is connected to the housing. The pump has at least one pumping state, in which fluid medium is provided by the pump device, and at least one operation state, in which fluid medium passes through the inlet and the outlet. In the operation state, a cutoff element is not provided between the inlet and the outlet.
