An individual detector includes a distance image sensor and object detection means. The distance image sensor is arranged to face a detection area and generates a distance image. When one or more physical objects are present in the area, each image element of the distance image contains each distance value to the one or more physical objects. According to the distance image generated by a sensor, the object detection means individually detects the one or more physical objects in the area. Accordingly, it is possible to detect the one or more physical objects in the detection area without increasing the number of constituent elements for detecting the one or more physical objects.
