A portable device for notifying a user of an event, the device being capable of providing a user-operable function to a user and having a screen for displaying function information in accordance with a function being operated by the user and a keypad comprising a plurality of keys for receiving input from the user, wherein the device is arranged to determine that an event independent of the function has occurred, generate event information about the event, display at least some of the event information on the screen and in response to a single one of the keys being operated whilst at least some of the event information is displayed, activate a second function corresponding to the event. |
