PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert a specific aromatic compound by bringing it into contact with such a catalyst containing a specific zeolite that the catalyst has sufficient activity, selectivity and life duration. SOLUTION: (A) An aromatic compound selected from (i) an aromatic compound having three or more substituents (e.g. trimethylbenzene), (ii) an aromatic compound having two substituents whose at least one is a halogen or >=2C (e.g. chlorotoluene) and (iii) a naphthalene derivative or an anthracene derivative having a substituent (e.g. naphthylnaphthalenepropylnaphthalene) is brought into contact with (B) a catalyst containing zeolite characterized in that the minimum value of fine pore diameters of its main cavity is 0.65 nm or more, preferably 0.70 nm or more, or the maximum value is 0.70 nm or more, and the main cavity does not cross any fine pore larger than a ring consisting of oxygen atoms of 10 or more, preferably 12 or more, to convert the component A. |
