An image display apparatus and a method for tuning a channel thereof are provided to analyze an input signal of a remote control and to discriminate channel number input of plural digit numbers for selecting more than one digit channel number and turning on power of the image display apparatus, thereby increasing convenience of a user. An image display apparatus(100) comprises a power supply part(150), a tuner part(140), a control part(170), a storage(130), an input signal receiving part(110), and an input signal analyzing part(120). The power supply part supplies power to drive an image display apparatus. The control part controls the power supply part to supply power when at least one number key is inputted while the apparatus is turned off, and control the tuner part to select the channel having a channel number mixed with plural number key signals. The number key signals are inputted from a remote control. The input signal analyzing part analyzes input time of each number key signal and provides the input time to the control part. |
