An MSC and a call waiting method for the MSC are provided to transmit a ring back tone to the other subscriber if a call is received from the other subscriber when a subscriber joining a call waiting function is receiving the call, not during the call, and provide the call waiting function to the other subscriber if the subscriber enters a call status, thereby reducing inconvenience that the other subscriber attempts the call again to maximize a call waiting supplementary service function. A call waiting method for an MSC(Mobile Switching Center) comprises the following steps of: checking whether a first mobile subscriber makes a call with a second mobile subscriber(S1); allowing a third mobile subscriber to make a call with the first mobile subscriber(S3); allowing the call control unit of a third mobile subscriber to request an HLR(Home Location Register) to provide routine information to the call control unit; checking whether the first mobile subscriber joins a call waiting function(S7); allowing the call control unit of the first mobile subscriber to transmit a ring back tone to the third subscriber(S9); allowing the first and second mobile subscribers to enter a call status(S11); allowing the call control unit of the first mobile subscriber to transmit a call sound to the first mobile subscriber(S13); allowing the first mobile subscriber to respond to the call of the third mobile subscriber(S15); allowing the call control unit of the first mobile subscriber to transmit a reservation sound to the second mobile subscriber(S17); and allowing the first mobile subscriber to perform a call waiting function with the second or third mobile subscribers alternatively according to the call selection of the first mobile subscriber(S19).
