A stopper device for preventing discharge of foreign substances from a tundish is provided to open or close a nozzle accurately and cut off discharge of foreign substances effectively in the last stage of casting by constructing the stopper device in a simple structure. As a stopper device for opening or closing a nozzle(2) formed on the bottom of a tundish(1), a stopper device for preventing discharge of foreign substances from the tundish includes a stopper part comprising a hollow stopper(20) which has a hollow cylindrical shape, which has holes(22) formed therein at a predetermined elevation from a lower end of the hollow stopper so that molten steel passes through the holes, and of which a lower end portion is formed in such a shape that an outer diameter of the hollow stopper, tapered from an upper side toward a lower side to insert the hollow stopper into an upper part of the nozzle. The stopper part additionally includes a stopper rod(10) of which a lower portion is removably connected to an upper portion of the hollow stopper, and of which an upper portion is removably mounted on a stopper holder part(30). The stopper holder part includes a pair of rotary housings, a shaft housing, and a cylinder. The stopper rod is connected to the rotary housings in a way that the stopper rod is rotated in the axial direction to vertically move the rotary housings, and the stopper holder part additionally includes a drive motor connected to the stopper rod to rotate the stopper rod.
