Provided are a nonaqueous electrolyte solution for a battery, and a lithium secondary battery containing the electrolyte solution which is improved in long lifetime characteristics and high temperature performance. The electrolyte solution comprises an electrolyte salt; an electrolyte solvent which comprises fluoroethylene carbonate; 1-5 wt% of a compound which has a reduction potential lower than that of the electrolyte solvent; and 0.1-5 wt% of a compound containing a nitrile group (-CN). Preferably the compound which has a reduction potential lower than that of the electrolyte solvent is at least one selected from the group consisting of propene sultone, ethylene sulfite, succinic anhydride, and difluoroethylene carbonate; and the compound containing a nitrile group is at least one selected from the group consisting of succinonitrile, adiponitrile and sebaconitrile. |
