A regulator for adjusting a 3-phase voltage and a controlling method thereof are provided to reduce the number of components exchange and an error rate of a voltage regulator by preventing an arc in a magnetic contactor. A regulator for adjusting a 3-phase voltage includes an input unit(10), an output unit(20), a magnetic switch unit(30), a main winding line(41R,41S,41T), an excitation winding unit(42R,42S,42T), an induction coupled switch unit(44R,44S,44T), a voltage comparison unit(50), and a control unit(60). The input unit receives an input voltage of R-phase, S-phase and T-phase. The output unit outputs R-phase voltage, S-phase voltage and T-phase voltage corresponding to the R-phase, S-phase and T-phase to a load. The magnetic switch unit is arranged on first, second and third paths which connect the input unit to the output unit. The main winding line is located on a first bypass path, a second bypass path and third bypass paths corresponding to the magnetic switch unit of the first, second and third paths. The excitation winding unit is coupled with the main winding line. The induction coupled switch unit switches an induced voltage in the excitation winding unit. The voltage comparison unit compares the input voltages of R-phase, S-phase and T-phase with a predetermined threshold value. The control unit controls the switch unit and the induction coupled switch unit so that the output voltage of the output unit satisfy a threshold voltage value based on the input voltage and the threshold voltage value.
