An AV apparatus and a method for displaying contents thereof are provided to display a content menu on a screen only by operating a direction key when the menu is not displayed for selecting arbitrary contents conveniently. A method for displaying contents of an AV apparatus comprises the methods; sensing whether a direction key of a remote control is operated(40), checking whether a menu is displayed when the direction key is operated(42), displaying a content menu when the menu is not displayed(44), and playing the content selected by a user(50). The content menu includes a video, pictures, or music. The direction key is processed when the menu is displayed(46).
