FIELD: metallurgy. ^ SUBSTANCE: probe for the measurement of oxygen activity in metallic melts contains a reference substance with a known oxygen activity, in an electrically conducting contact with the measuring device, solid electrolyte conducting mainly oxygen ions and having negligibly low electron conduction at high temperatures, providing separation of the reference substance from the metallic melt and forming an oxygen ion entrant surface, which contacts the metallic melt. The entrant surface of the probe ready for operation is covered with a structure made of functional foil, which is in close contact with the entrant surface and is pressed tightly to the entrant surface from the outside at its whole length by mechanical means.
