A recording medium, a method and apparatus for recording data on the recording medium are provided to allow adjustment of available spare area and management area. A method for recording data on a recording medium comprises the steps of: discriminating whether a defective area exists on the recording medium where data is recorded(S11); recording data to be recorded on the defective area on a spare area in a first direction when a defective area exists(S13); recording defect management information for the defective area on a management area in a second direction different from the first direction(S14); discriminating whether a range of the spare area and the management area exceeds a predetermined reference value(S15); and readjusting the spare area and the management area when the range exceeds the predetermined reference value(S18).
