An array substrate of an in-plane switching mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method of manufacturing the array substrate are provided to allow neighboring pixel regions to share a common electrode to secure a wide aperture region. An array substrate of an in-plane switching mode LCD includes a substrate, a plurality of gate lines(102) extended in one direction on the substrate, a plurality of data lines(126) intersecting the gate lines to define pixel regions, and a switching element(T) formed at each of intersections of the gate lines and the data lines and composed of a gate electrode, an active layer(112), a source electrode(116), and a drain electrode(118). The array substrate further includes an auxiliary common electrode, a pixel electrode, and a common electrode. The auxiliary common electrode is located over vertically neighboring first and second pixel regions(P1,P2) and includes first, second and third horizontal parts(106a,106b,106c), and first and second vertical parts(106d,106e) connecting the first, second and third horizontal parts. The pixel electrode includes a horizontal part(132a) located on the first or second horizontal part of the auxiliary common electrode, and a plurality of vertical parts(132b) extended from the horizontal part to the corresponding pixel region. The common electrode includes a horizontal part(134a) located on the third horizontal part and a plurality of vertical parts(134b) extended from the horizontal part to the first and second pixel regions. |
