PLASMA DISPLAY DEVICE AND DRIVING METHOD THEREOF

A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to reliably represent brightness irrespective of the number of sustain discharge by increasing the pulsewidth of some of sustain discharge pulses. A PDP includes plural discharge cells(12) and a controller(200). The controller divides one frame into plural sub-fields with different weights and calculates the number of sustain discharge pulses allocated for respective sub-fields according to an external image signal and the weights. For the sub-field, when more than a reference number of sustain discharge pulses are allocated, the controller sets the sustain discharge pulses to a first pulsewidth during a formal half before a predetermined timing in the sustain period. The controller sets some of the sustain discharge pulses to a second pulsewidth longer than the first pulsewidth during a latter half after the predetermined timing.
