<p>An apparatus and a method for providing traffic information using handoff information and a recording medium recording a program for implementing the same are provided to grasp a location of a portable terminal by using the handoff information between BTSs without cooperation of a GPS(Global Positioning System) system during movement, and provide the traffic information simply through an SMS. A registration information storage(601) stores information about a location for receiving traffic information and information about a portable terminal(100) receiving the traffic information. A determiner(602) receives handoff information, generated according to movement of the portable terminal, from a BSM(Base Station Manager)(500) included in a mobile communication system, and determines whether a BTS(Base Transceiver Station)(102) where handoff is generated is consistent with a BTS corresponding to the location information. If so, a traffic information transmission requesting unit(604) requests an SMS(Short Message Service) center(503) included in the mobile communication terminal to transmit traffic information corresponding to the location information to the portable terminal.</p> |
