PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the increasing problems in recent years, wherein an indoor unit of an air conditioner cannot be installed in view of structural aspect of housing environment on one side and lateral width or longitudinal width or both restrictions since there are increasingly demands toward a large capacity of an air conditioner as a room gets larger and larger, and further the unit size is increased as energy saving or higher efficiency is attained. SOLUTION: In an air conditioner having an indoor unit form of a wall-hanging type, the indoor unit includes a suction port on the top or the front, or both of the top and the front; a blow-off port in the lower surface; and a cross flow fan for blowing the indoor air from the suction port through a heat exchanger to the blow-off port, wherein a first lateral width of a face coming into contact with the wall surface on the back of the indoor unit and a second lateral width of a face not coming into contact with the installation wall surface are different in dimensions, the first lateral width ranges from 765 mm to 788 mm, the second lateral width ranges from 790 mm to 800 mm, and the height of the indoor unit ranges from 290 mm to 300 mm.
