PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire 2 having a carcass ply 36 of a super-high turn-up structure and excellent ride quality while any ply-loose hardly occurs. SOLUTION: The carcass ply 36 comprises a main portion 38 and a return portion 40. The return portion 40 overlaps a belt 18 in the axial direction. An end 48 of the return portion 40 leads immediately below the belt 18. The end 48 is covered with a covering rubber 22. The width Wc of the covering rubber 22 is≥3 mm. The thickness of the covering rubber 22 is≥0.3 mm. The complex modulus of elasticity E<SP>*</SP>of the covering rubber 22 is≥6 MPa and≤11 MPa.
