PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer for an FED (Field-Emission Display) which inhibits spacer image projection onto an image on the FED that is caused by charging the spacer, and to provide the FED having the spacer. SOLUTION: In the FED, the surface or the whole of the spacer maintaining a gap between two panel glasses is made of a material having a negative temperature coefficient of resistance, and the sectional area of the spacer is changed continuously in the height direction to locate the side with a smaller sectional area on the cathode side. This achieves a state in which an electric field expanding between the anode side and the cathode side changes uniformly. As a result, an electron emitted from an electron emission source on the cathode side receives a force acting straight toward the anode, which prevents the track of the electron from bending.
