摘要 <p>A maintenance link using active/standby request channels is provided to use more channels and resources in supporting data transmission between a base station and field units, thereby increasing latent throughput of an assigned carrier frequency. A minimum maintenance link is maintained between a multi field unit and a base station even when current data payload is not transmitted in a reverse link direction between the multi field unit and the base station. A wireless communication system includes a heartbeat channel(55HS), a heartbeat request active channel(55HRA) of a reverse link, and a LQM(Link Quality Management) channel(60L) of a forward link. The channels are shared between the base station and the plural filed units. The base station transmits messages to the plural field units by using the same forward LQM channel. A message for a specific field unit is transmitted to an assigned time slot. To control a power level and timing array of a corresponding field unit, a first field unit of a standby mode transmits a timing reference signal monitored in the base station. A second field unit of an active mode is assigned to a reverse LQM time slot for transmitting a message to the base station.</p>
